Introduction Theory process
photographic processes are sensitive to light. Until now we used, most often, a negative film consists of millions of silver grains more or less large and more or less dense. It exposed the paper to the negative light by interposing between the two, and you got a contact or larger, according to the method. To adapt to different negative contrasts were used papers of various grades or emulsions of different contrasts.
The digital negative is based on the ability to recreate an inkjet printer similar to a negative silver negative. This is to simulate the silver grain and the various aspects of the film using an inkjet transparency, software for image processing and an inkjet printer. But unlike the negative silver must manage a new parameter, the inking.
Following a protocol setting we will find:
- the color most safelight, without over-inking, for the process that we use.
- the curve to be applied to simulate the contrast of the negative
This will allow us to make prints from both of our negative silver as our digital files.
In practice, after the first test period, it will suffice to apply your digital file has some modifications, to ultimately obtain a perfect negative contact.
